FEFF FAR EAST FILM FESTIVAL 25

Tutte le molteplicità del pianeta Asia in un racconto lungo 9 giorni: 78 film, 14 paesi, 9 anteprime mondiali. Gelso d’Oro alla Carriera a Chieko Baisho

Dal 21 al 29 aprile, al Teatro Nuovo “Giovanni da Udine” e al Visionario, il FEFF 25 viaggerà nell’Oriente di ieri e di oggi, attraverso i 42 film in concorso (un totale di 78 titoli da 14 cinematografie, 9 anteprime mondiali, 13 internazionali, 14 europee e 23 italiane) e tanti altri sentieri tematici.

Ad aprire il Festival la prima co-produzione tra Singapore e Corea del Sud: Ajoomma di He Shuming e il taiwanese Bad Education di Kai Ko. La closing night vedrà, invece, brillare nientepopodimeno che Full River Red l’ultimo capolavoro di Zhang Yimou.

Il Giappone è rappresentato con 8 film nella sezione competitiva ai quali si aggiungono 3 special screening e 4 titoli della retrospettiva. Tra le personalità più attese, l’eclettico e super prolifico regista Hiroki Ryuichi (Tokyo Love Hotel), caro amico del FEFF, che presenta 3 suoi film: il nuovissimo Phases of the Moon, in concorso, un appassionante dramma con al centro il tema della reincarnazione, You’ve Got a Friend, fuori concorso, un dramedy sulle pratiche sado-maso di un tranquillo impiegato di mezza età e, nella sezione retrospettiva, il suo primo lungometraggio commerciale, 800 Two-Lap Runners del 1994, una variazione sul tema dei teen movie.

A fare la parte del leone nella sezione nipponica, la prima internazionale di The Legend & Butterfly dell’affermato regista Otomo Keishi qui alle prese con il dramma storico. Un racconto bellico che si trasforma in una magnifica epopea cinquecentesca e in una delicata e appassionante storia d’amore. Dal Giappone non mancano poi, come sempre, i film brillanti e bizzarri come Yudo, una vera dichiarazione d’amore al sento cioè al bagno pubblico che, da luogo cittadino popolarissimo, è caduto in disgrazia negli anni Settanta.

Sul versante “d’autore” vanno citati Egoist, straziante e bellissima storia d’amore gay nella Tokyo contemporanea, She is Me, I am Her, un film in 4 episodi ambientati nell’epoca Covid e diretti dalla regista Nakamura Mayu, e December, un’autentica sorpresa: in un Paese come il Giapponese a lungo orgoglioso della propria omogeneità culturale, questo avvincente dramma giudiziario è diretto da un regista indiano (naturalizzato giapponese): Anshul Chauhan.

BAISHO CHIEKO: GELSO D’ORO ALLA CARRIERA 2023
Dopo Takeshi Kitano, premiato nel 2022, il Gelso d’Oro alla Carriera del Far East Film Festival andrà quest’anno a Baisho Chieko (che gli amanti degli anime conosceranno come voce di Sophie de Il Castello errante di Howl di Hayao Miyazaki). La celebre attrice e cantante giapponese porterà al FEFF 25 il suo film più recente, Plan 75 di Hayakawa Chie, e due film che ha voluto scegliere personalmente per il pubblico di Udine: il primo episodio di Tora-san (1969) e Where Spring Comes Late (1970).
